Jon M. Barnwell
Judge Jon M. Barnwell was born in Greenwood, Mississippi where he currently resides with his wife, Anne. Judge Barnwell attended Mississippi State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1966. He later attended the University of Mississippi Law School and obtained his Juris Doctorate in January 1971. Judge Barnwell served two years of active duty in the United States Army from 1966-1968, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He began practicing law in Clarksdale with Luckett & Barnwell. He later served as Judge Pro Tem for the City of Clarksdale. Judge Barnwell served eight years as Leflore County Veterans' Service Officer. In July, 1989, he was elected Chancery Judge of the Seventh Judicial District. Judge Barnwell has served as past Chairman of the Conference of Chancery Judges. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors for Greenwood Little Theater, Board of Directors for Greenwood Arts Foundation, a previous board member of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, former President and current member of the Greenwood Lions Club, and a member of the Leflore County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the American Law Institute. Judge Barnwell attends the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Greenwood.
